Writing Slope c.1870/80 Price: SOLD
This superb writing slope has the maker's name engraved on the underside of the skivver - a mark of excellent quality. The exterior body of the slope is veneered in Coromandel wood, sometimes called 'tiger ebony' because of its dramatic stripes. Brass engraved straps enclose the slope and its domed lid, with an abundance of Gothic decoration. The interior is fitted with a purple velvet skivver, (original), a letter compartment, pen tray, decorated curved lids and ink wells. The lining is Satin Walnut and a fantastic honey gold. This is a box of considerable distinction. The lock to the exterior is a Bramah lock which could be traced with the company and a new key cut.
Condition: There are signs of wear related to normal usage. A couple of very small repairs to veneer and a slight shrinkage. This is however a magnificently decorative piece. (Reference: 564)
