Papier Mâché Jewel Box

  c.1850/60 English

Dimensions: height: 24cm; length: 25cm; Depth:19cm. £850

An enchanting  example of a small Papier Mâché table top cabinet. This piece is intended for jewllery or small collectors' items. The door opens to reveal 4 sliding drawers, inlaid with shell and with Mother-of-Pearl flower knobs. The Mother-of-Pearl inlay on the lid shows a floral arrangement. The front and sides have panels of floral bouquets and gilding.  This is ready to sit on a dressing table, table or chest of drawers to delight and be admired.  I'm sure the practical drawers will find a myriad of uses - uncut diamonds perhaps, precious jewels, keepsakes, love letters or spare buttons!
