Mother-of-Pearl Pierce-decorated Frame

19th Century

Dimensions: height,18cm; diameter, 14cm.

In contemporary simple black frame. Price: SOLD

This beautiful and unusual object came from a collection of Mother-of-Pearl. It is 19th Century, (over 100 years old), and has been carved from a single shell.  Its decoration could be Persian, with the important symbol of the Peacock or of Indian influence.  We  have mounted this on blue velvet and placed it in a plain, dark frame so that all the focus is on the object. It would have been intended as a picture frame, but it is a picture of artistry in its own right.   (Reference: 504)
